Iran threatens retaliation if its oil tankers are attacked
Tensions in the Middle East continue to rise after Iran warned that it would retaliate against any attacks targeting its oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
Iranian officials said the country would not tolerate attacks on its commercial vessels, especially those transporting oil, and warned that any further aggression would receive a “strong response.” The statement followed reports of attacks on two oil tankers near the Gulf region, an incident that has further escalated tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel.
The United States and Israel have repeatedly accused Iran of supporting instability in the region and threatening international maritime security. In recent weeks, both countries carried out what they described as “preventive strikes” against Iranian-linked targets, claiming the operations were aimed at stopping potential attacks.
The ongoing conflict is already affecting global oil markets, with experts warning that instability in the Strait of Hormuz could disrupt nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply transported through the route. Several countries have started expressing concern over rising fuel prices and the possible economic impact of a prolonged crisis.
Despite international calls for calm and diplomatic dialogue, Iran insists it is ready to defend its interests and respond to any military action targeting its ships or territory.
