Rwandan peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic today provided free medical services to more than 410 internally displaced persons living in the Gobolo 1 IDP camp in Bria.

The humanitarian outreach was conducted by Rwanda Level 2+ Hospital and RWABG VIII as part of activities leading up to the celebration of the United Nations International Day scheduled for May 29, 2029.

The beneficiaries included displaced people from different parts of the Central African Republic, as well as refugees who fled from Sudan due to years of insecurity and conflict affecting both countries.

During the medical campaign, the Rwandan peacekeepers offered a wide range of healthcare services including internal medicine, dental care, gynecology and obstetrics, dermatology, and other treatments.

Speaking during the event, Ponombo Felix, Chief of the Supervision and Health Care Quality Section at the District Sanitary Office of Haute-Kotto Region, praised the Rwandan contingent for its continued humanitarian support to vulnerable communities.

“We are very happy that the Rwandan contingent under MINUSCA came here to treat the IDPs at the Gobolo 1 camp for various diseases. This event demonstrates the strong cooperation that already exists between MINUSCA and the local community in Bria,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Adama Babiru, also expressed gratitude for the free treatment and medication provided by the peacekeepers, noting that access to proper healthcare remains a major challenge for many people living in the camp.

The outreach further highlighted Rwanda’s commitment to humanitarian service and civilian protection through its peacekeeping missions abroad.
