Rwanda and Russia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation in healthcare and medical research.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the World Health Assembly during a meeting between Russia’s Minister of Health, Mikhail Murashko, and Rwanda’s Minister of Health, Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana.

The memorandum was signed between the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Rwanda as part of efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation in the health sector.

Under the agreement, the two countries will collaborate in several strategic areas including strengthening healthcare systems, professional development of medical personnel, prevention and treatment of communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as medical rehabilitation and diagnostics.

The partnership will also focus on improving state regulation of medicines and medical devices, advancing medical scientific research, and enhancing maternal and child healthcare services, including measures aimed at reducing infant and child mortality.

Another key area of cooperation highlighted in the agreement is nuclear medicine, reflecting growing international collaboration in advanced medical technologies and innovation.

Officials from both countries said the partnership is expected to support knowledge exchange, strengthen healthcare capacity, and promote innovation in the delivery of medical services.

The agreement comes as Rwanda continues expanding international partnerships in the health sector to improve healthcare access, strengthen specialized treatment, and enhance the country’s medical research capabilities.
