On Thursday afternoon, Paul Kagame welcomed 41 students from Harvard Kennedy School and Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy for a discussion on Rwanda’s development path.

The students were in Rwanda as part of the Harvard–Rwanda Trek 2026, a week-long academic visit aimed at exploring the country’s progress and governance model.

During the exchange, President Kagame highlighted Rwanda’s transformation over the past three decades, emphasizing accountable leadership, strong institutions, and long-term investment in human capital. He underscored the importance of self-reliance as a guiding principle in the country’s development strategy.

Earlier in their visit, the group was received by Usta Kaitesi, who briefed them on Rwanda’s diplomatic trajectory. They also met with Foreign Affairs Minister Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe, who outlined the pillars of Rwanda’s foreign policy.

Discussions throughout the visit covered regional security, economic growth, international cooperation, and Rwanda’s efforts to combat genocide ideology both locally and globally.

The academic tour also focused on Rwanda’s recovery and innovation-driven economy, including exposure to technological initiatives such as those led by Zipline.

Students expressed strong interest in understanding Rwanda’s history, its recovery from the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, and its journey toward sustainable development and self-reliance.

The visit further reflects Rwanda’s growing role as a hub for global learning, offering insights into post-conflict recovery, governance, and inclusive development.
