Rwanda’s Ambassador to Senegal Festus Bizimana on Thursday participated in a high-level panel discussion on space diplomacy during Senegal Space Week 2026 currently taking place in Dakar.

The discussion brought together representatives from Rwanda, Senegal, France, and the United States countries that are signatories to the Artemis Accords launched by the U.S. Department of State in 2020 to promote peaceful and cooperative space exploration.

During the panel, Ambassador Bizimana emphasized Rwanda’s commitment to ensuring that space technology and geospatial data benefit all communities and contribute to sustainable development.

He noted that Rwanda’s decision to become one of the early signatories to the Artemis Accords was driven by the belief that space belongs to all humanity and that access to space-related data should be shared widely to support sectors such as disaster prevention, agriculture, environmental protection, and innovation.

The ambassador also highlighted the importance of expanding access to space exploration technologies and promoting knowledge sharing while adapting scientific advancements to local realities and development priorities.

Participants at the panel discussed the growing role of international cooperation in space governance, technological innovation, and the peaceful use of outer space as African countries increasingly invest in the space sector.
