The Chairperson of the Board of the Rwanda Atomic Energy Board (RAEB), Lassina Zerbo, has praised President Paul Kagame for what he described as visionary leadership and commitment to transforming Africa through technology and modern energy solutions.

He made the remarks on Tuesday during the opening ceremony of the African Conference on Nuclear Energy Innovation and Technology taking place at Kigali Convention Centre.

Addressing delegates from different African countries, Dr. Zerbo said Rwanda has become an example of how African nations can achieve major progress through strong leadership, clear vision, and investment in innovation.

According to him, Rwanda has demonstrated that with determination, discipline, and strategic planning, an African country can position itself as a model for technological advancement and self-reliance. He emphasized that the country’s efforts in science, research, and energy development are inspiring many nations across the continent.

The conference brought together policymakers, scientists, energy experts, and international partners to discuss the future of nuclear energy in Africa, especially its role in supporting industrial development, electricity production, healthcare, agriculture, and climate resilience.

Dr. Zerbo highlighted that Africa’s growing population and increasing energy demand require long-term and sustainable solutions, noting that nuclear technology could help bridge the energy gap while accelerating economic growth.

Participants at the summit are expected to exchange ideas on innovation, safety standards, investment opportunities, and partnerships aimed at helping African countries adopt peaceful nuclear technologies responsibly.

The event also reflects Rwanda’s growing ambition to position itself as a regional hub for science, technology, and clean energy development. Over the past few years, the country has strengthened partnerships with international institutions to advance research and skills in nuclear science and related technologies.

Several leaders attending the summit commended Rwanda for hosting the event and for creating an environment that encourages innovation and collaboration in advanced technologies across Africa.

The conference is expected to continue with panel discussions, expert presentations, and strategic meetings focused on the future of nuclear energy and technological transformation on the African continent.
