Paul Kagame and Bola Ahmed Tinubu have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations between Rwanda and Nigeria following high-level talks held in Kigali on Wednesday.

This meeting took place at Urugwiro Village on the sidelines of the Africa CEO Forum and focused on expanding cooperation in trade, security, anti-corruption and regional integration. The discussions also reflected renewed efforts to boost ties between two of Africa’s influential economies.

Among the key resolutions was the revival of the Joint Permanent Ministerial Commission, a bilateral framework signed in 2021 that has remained largely inactive. Nigeria is expected to host the commission’s next session. Tinubu also said Abuja would consider granting Rwandans visa-free access, similar to Rwanda’s current 30-day visa-free policy for Nigerians.

The two leaders further discussed implementing pending agreements in tourism, anti-drug operations and anti-corruption efforts, while also exploring ways to operationalise the African Continental Free Trade Area between both countries. Nigeria is additionally in talks with RwandAir over a possible air cargo partnership aimed at improving export connectivity across Africa.
