Rwanda National Police, through its Fire and Rescue Brigade, has trained more than 1,000 students and teachers from ETEFOP TSS in fire prevention, firefighting techniques, and emergency response measures.

The training was conducted on May 20 as part of the Rwanda National Police’s ongoing nationwide awareness campaign aimed at educating the public on the causes of fires, preventive measures, and basic rescue skills to reduce damage and loss caused by fire outbreaks.

Held in Musanze District, the session provided participants with practical knowledge on handling fire emergencies, including proper use of different types of fire extinguishers and ways to prevent fires caused by cooking gas and electrical accidents.

Speaking during the training, the Police spokesperson for the Northern Province, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Ignace Ngirabakunzi, stressed that understanding the causes of fires is essential in preventing disasters and ensuring timely intervention.

He explained that the extent of destruction caused by a fire often depends on its source and how quickly it is contained, emphasizing the importance of rapid response and public awareness.

The Police official further encouraged participants to apply the skills they acquired, share the knowledge within their communities, and immediately alert emergency services whenever fire incidents occur.

School authorities welcomed the initiative, describing it as important for improving safety within schools and surrounding communities.

The head of the school, Father Remedi Didier Dushyirehanwe, praised the Rwanda National Police for providing timely and practical training that will help students, teachers, and families better respond to emergencies.

He noted that the knowledge gained during the session would continue to benefit not only the school community but also families and local residents through awareness sharing and improved preparedness.

The training forms part of broader efforts by the Rwanda National Police to strengthen public safety awareness and build community resilience against fire-related risks across the country.
