In Rwanda, new two-passenger drones have been unveiled through a partnership between the Government of Rwanda and China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).

These self-flying eVTOL air taxis run 100% on electricity and are equipped with obstacle-detection technology, ensuring safe and emission-free flights.

The unveiling took place during Aviation Africa 2025 in Kigali on September 4-5, marking the first public demonstration of such drones in Africa. This milestone highlights Rwanda’s commitment to becoming a regional hub for advanced aviation technology, in collaboration with international partners like CRBC and EHang, a global leader in urban air mobility solutions.

The Minister of Infrastructure of Rwanda said, “Rwanda is actively building a future where our cities are better connected and our economy is more dynamic through innovative transport solutions. Our partnership with CRBC provides a strong foundation to bring in new technologies and expertise. This historic flight not only showcases the future of aviation but also demonstrates our commitment to creating a safe and progressive regulatory environment for advanced air mobility.”

HUANG Qilin, Director General of CRBC Rwanda Office, added, “We are proud to partner with the Government of Rwanda to support their vision of becoming a pioneer in aviation technology. This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to bringing cutting-edge solutions to Africa.”

Rwanda has already gained global recognition for using drones for fast medical deliveries and livestock support. These newly unveiled drones represent a major step forward for the country and the continent in adopting advanced air mobility technologies.
