Ugandan Police seize expensive designer outfit linked to former speaker Anita Among
Ugandan authorities have reportedly seized an expensive designer outfit belonging to former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, intensifying scrutiny surrounding the lavish lifestyles of senior government officials amid ongoing corruption investigations in the country.
According to reports from Ugandan media, the outfit was among several luxury items recovered during investigations targeting assets believed to have been acquired through misuse of public funds. The dress had attracted public attention after Anita Among wore it during the swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni earlier this year.
Sources close to the investigation claim the outfit is valued at more than RWF 17 million, making it one of the most expensive garments linked to a Ugandan public official in recent months. The seizure reportedly forms part of wider investigations into wealth accumulation and allegations of corruption involving senior figures in Uganda’s political establishment.
Ugandan police and anti-corruption agencies have in recent weeks increased operations targeting luxury properties, vehicles, and high-value personal items connected to public officials under investigation. Authorities say the crackdown is intended to strengthen accountability and restore public trust in state institutions.
Anita Among, who previously served as Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament before recent political changes, has repeatedly faced criticism from civil society groups and opposition politicians over allegations related to misuse of public resources. Although she has denied wrongdoing in the past, her name has frequently appeared in public debates concerning corruption and extravagant spending among top leaders.
The latest reports surrounding the seized designer outfit have triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many Ugandans questioning how public officials are able to afford such costly items in a country where many citizens continue to struggle with high living costs and unemployment.
Political analysts say the incident reflects growing public frustration over inequality and governance issues in Uganda, especially as pressure mounts on authorities to demonstrate transparency and accountability among senior government figures.
Neither Anita Among nor her legal representatives had issued an official statement regarding the reported seizure at the time of publication. Meanwhile, investigators are expected to continue examining financial records and luxury assets connected to the ongoing probe.
The development comes at a time when anti-corruption efforts remain a major topic in Uganda’s political landscape, with activists urging authorities to ensure that investigations are conducted fairly and without political influence.
