President Paul Kagame has arrived in Gaborone, Botswana for a two-day State Visit, where he was welcomed by President Duma Boko. During the visit, the two leaders are holding high-level engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors.

At the State House in Gaborone, the two Heads of State held a tête-à-tête meeting followed by bilateral talks with their respective delegations.

They later witnessed the signing of several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding between Rwanda and Botswana, covering areas such as avoidance of double taxation, visa exemptions for diplomatic, official and national passport holders, air services, health, and cooperation in trade, investment, and economic development. Additional collaboration was also established between the Rwanda Development Board and the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre.

Speaking during a joint press conference, President Kagame emphasized the strong foundation of the partnership:

"What defines the relationship between Rwanda and Botswana is not only friendship, but also a shared sense of purpose. This is evident in the way we work together, and in our commitment to practical outcomes. Across areas such as air connectivity, visa facilitation, and double taxation, our objective is to remove barriers, and to create a more predictable environment for investment and collaboration."

President Kagame also emphasized that Botswana has consistently demonstrated what forward-looking leadership can accomplish.

He said: "The way you have managed your natural resources, particularly diamonds, reflects a deliberate effort to retain value, and translate it into real benefits for your people. This is an approach that strongly resonates with us.”

The visit highlights a growing partnership focused on delivering practical results, boosting investment, and enhancing cooperation for the benefit of both nations.
