The Ambassador of Rwanda to Nigeria, Rugema Moses, met with members of the Rwandan community living in Abuja during a reception held in his honor.

The gathering brought together members of the diaspora and embassy officials, with discussions focusing on strengthening collaboration and joint efforts aimed at contributing to Rwanda’s national development, as well as reinforcing unity among Rwandans living in Nigeria.

The community reaffirmed its commitment to actively participate in national programs, including the upcoming 32nd commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994, set to begin on April 7, 2026, and continue over a 100-day period.

Ambassador Rugema brings extensive diplomatic experience to his new role. He previously served in Rwanda’s diplomatic missions in the United Kingdom and the United States, and held key positions at the United Nations in Geneva, including Deputy Permanent Representative.

Rwanda and Nigeria have maintained strong bilateral relations since 1962, with growing cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, and technology. Nigeria also supports Rwanda through technical assistance, particularly in health and education.

Additionally, Nigerian military personnel continue to benefit from training in Rwanda, while RwandAir operates direct flights to Abuja and Lagos, enhancing connectivity between the two countries.
