President Paul Kagame has said that his working visit to Botswana was productive and reflected the strong and growing relationship between Rwanda and Botswana.

He made the remarks on Wednesday evening during a state dinner hosted by Botswana’s President, Duma Gideon Boko, in honor of the Rwandan delegation in Gaborone.

“Our visit has been fruitful and we are very pleased with the outcomes. It demonstrates the trust and friendship that exist between our two countries,” President Kagame said.

The visit comes as Rwanda and Botswana continue to deepen cooperation in key sectors including trade, investment, tourism, transport, health, digital innovation, and the diamond industry.

During the trip, President Kagame and President Boko held bilateral talks focusing on expanding economic partnerships and improving collaboration between the two countries. Senior officials from both sides also participated in discussions aimed at identifying new areas of cooperation.

Several agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed, including cooperation in investment promotion, air services, double taxation avoidance, health, and visa facilitation for diplomatic and official passport holders. The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre also agreed to strengthen business-to-business ties and encourage private sector investment between the two nations.

The visit follows recent high-level engagements between Rwanda and Botswana, including meetings of the Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation, which have been instrumental in shaping new areas of partnership.

Observers say the visit highlights growing economic diplomacy between African countries, with Rwanda and Botswana positioning themselves as partners focused on development, innovation, and regional integration.
