APR FC were crowned as the winner of Peace Cup after defeating their arch-rivals Rayon Sport FC in a tense final that ended in penalties this evening on Saturday at Amahoro Stadium.

The match, which attracted thousands of supporters for Rwanda’s biggest football derby, ended 1-1 after regular time before APR held their nerve to win 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

Asman Ndikumana netted the first goal for Rayon Sports in the late first half, giving their fans some hope of ending the season with silverware but that hope didn't last too long after William Tongui put one back for the military side to equalize in the 51st minute to bring game level again.

Neither side managed to find the winner during extra time despite several attacking attempts, forcing the final into penalties where APR FC held their nerve.

Emery Bayisenge and Didier Mugisha converted their penalties for Rayon Sports, while goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera and Asman Ndikumana who scored the first goal failed to score their penalties.

For APR FC, Hakim Kiwanuka, Gilbert Byiringiro, Claude Niyomugabo, and Denis Omedi all converted from the spot to clinch a second trophy for the army side this season.

The victory means APR FC complete a domestic double after already winning the Rwanda Premier League title earlier this season continuing their dominance in local football under Moroccan coach Taleb Abderrahim.

APR had entered the final as favorites after eliminating Etincelles FC 6-2 on aggregate in the semifinals, while Rayon Sports reached the final after proggressing on away goals against Gorilla FC.

The final was officiated by referee Patience Rulisa, who had been appointed by FERWAFA earlier this week.

For Rayon Sports, the defeat adds another painful chapter in their rivalry against APR, especially after missing out on the league title as well. Meanwhile, APR fans celebrated yet another trophy in what has become one of the club’s most successful recent campaigns in recent seasons.

APR FC are now expected to shift focus toward preparations for next season’s continental competitions after ending the domestic campaign with 2 trophies in the 2025/26 season.
