Minister Nduhungirehe meets Abdoulkader Houssein Omar to deepen Rwanda–Djibouti relations
Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, met with Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between Rwanda and Djibouti.
The meeting, held on March 16, 2026, focused on exploring new opportunities to expand collaboration in sectors that can further benefit both countries.
During the meeting, Minister Nduhungirehe delivered a message from President Paul Kagame to Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh.
Rwanda and Djibouti have maintained strong diplomatic relations for years, supported by a joint ministerial commission that regularly meets to review progress and identify new areas of partnership.
In November 2025, the two countries signed nine cooperation agreements covering sectors such as sports, health, social development, and diplomatic training.
The partnership between the two nations also includes cooperation in trade promotion, air transport, technology, investment protection, and visa facilitation for diplomats.
As a sign of their strong ties, Djibouti allocated Rwanda 60 hectares of land, including areas near the port and within a commercial zone. In return, Rwanda granted Djibouti 10 hectares of land in the Masoro Industrial Zone.
