NBA Finals: Knicks Edge Spurs 105-104 in Game 2 Thriller
New York Knicks moved within two victories of their first NBA championship since 1973 after a razor-thin 102-101 margin against San Antonio Spurs in a dramatic Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Friday night.
Jalen Brunson endured a difficult shooting night but delivered when it mattered most. The Knicks star finished with 20 points and five steals, Karl-Anthony Towns led New York with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Mikal Bridges added 20 points, six rebounds and six assists. Landry Shamet contributed 13 points off the bench.
San Antonio was led by Victor Wembanyama, who recorded 29 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. De'Aaron Fox added 20 points as the Spurs fought back late and threatened to even the series.
After San Antonio rallied to tie the contest, a costly turnover involving Wembanyama and Stephon Castle gave New York possession in the closing seconds. Brunson capitalized at the free-throw line before Wembanyama's contested jumper at the buzzer missed the mark, sealing another heartbreaking defeat for the Spurs.
Despite the loss, Wembanyama continued to showcase his impact on both ends of the floor, but the Spurs struggled to contain New York's balanced attack and defensive intensity.
The series now heads to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday June 8, early morning, where the Knicks will have an opportunity to move one step closer to ending a 53-year championship drought. The Spurs, meanwhile, face a must-win Game 3 if they hope to keep their title hopes alive.
