President Kagame Attends PSG vs Chelsea Champions League Match in Paris

President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, who is on a visit to France, attended the Round of 16 match of the UEFA Champions League between Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea F.C.


The match was played on the evening of Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Parc des Princes in Paris. Among those present was former French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The game ended with PSG defeating Chelsea 5–2.

PSG started strongly in the first half, scoring twice while Chelsea managed one goal. Bradley Barcola opened the scoring in the 10th minute, followed by a goal from Ousmane Dembélé in the 40th minute. Chelsea’s goal in the first half was scored by Malo Gusto in the 28th minute.

In the second half, Enzo Fernández scored Chelsea’s second goal in the 57th minute. However, PSG responded with a third goal from Vitinha following an error by Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen.

Substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sealed the victory by scoring two late goals, one in the 86th minute and another in stoppage time, giving PSG a 5–2 advantage ahead of the return leg scheduled for March 17, 2026.

During his visit to Paris, President Kagame also attended an international meeting focused on nuclear energy and held discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron on security in the Great Lakes region and the bilateral relations between the two countries.

PSG has been partnering with the Government of Rwanda through the Visit Rwanda initiative since 2019, a partnership that was renewed in 2025 and will run until 2028.
