Senior officers from the Rwanda Defence Force, other security institutions, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are attending a Defence Policy Course being held from 18 to 29 May 2026 at the RDF Command and Staff College.

The strategic-level training programme brings together senior officials to strengthen their understanding of contemporary defence and security issues at both national and regional levels.

Speaking during the official opening of the course on behalf of the RDF Chief of Defence Staff, Commandant of the RDF Command and Staff College, Brig Gen Andrew Nyamvumba, said the programme is designed to enhance strategic thinking, policy analysis, and decision-making capabilities among participants.

He noted that the course aims to equip senior officers and officials with the skills required to effectively respond to evolving defence and security challenges facing the region and the wider international community.

The Defence Policy Course is the second in a new series of strategic-level programmes developed by the RDF Command and Staff College in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen professional military education and promote collaboration between defence, security, and diplomatic institutions in addressing complex security dynamics.
