Tanzania and Singapore mark 45 Years of relations with historic Presidential visit

The Republic of Tanzania and Singapore have celebrated 45 years of diplomatic relations as Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam paid a historic visit to Dar es Salaam, becoming the first head of state from Singapore to visit Tanzania.


President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Tuesday, 09 June 2026, welcomed the Singaporean leader at State House, describing the visit as a major milestone in relations between the two countries and a sign of their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation.

Following bilateral talks, the two countries witnessed the signing of one treaty and four Memoranda of Understanding aimed at expanding opportunities in trade, investment, entrepreneurship education, innovation, and the digital economy, particularly for young people.

The two leaders also agreed to deepen cooperation in agriculture and establish a joint consultation mechanism to coordinate the implementation of agreements and address challenges efficiently.

President Samia further invited Singapore to open an embassy in Tanzania to help strengthen diplomatic ties and support the implementation of the new agreements.
