Leaders and residents of Rwanda’s Southern Province gathered in Nyanza District for Kwibuka 32 to honor 101 former leaders and civil servants from the province who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The commemoration ceremony, held at the Southern Province headquarters, was attended by Col. Desire Migambi Mungamba, the Rwanda Defence Force Chief of Civil-Military Cooperation, alongside local leaders and members of the community.

In his remarks, Col. Migambi spoke about Rwanda’s history before colonialism, emphasizing that Rwandans once lived in unity before colonial policies introduced divisions that later fueled discrimination and persecution against the Tutsi.

He also paid tribute to the courage of young Rwandans led by President Paul Kagame, whose efforts stopped the Genocide against the Tutsi and laid the foundation for the country’s recovery and reconstruction.

Col. Migambi called on leaders and young people to preserve Rwanda’s values of unity and resilience, while remaining vigilant against genocide ideology, divisionism and denial of the Genocide against the Tutsi.
