The Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College, in partnership with the University of Rwanda, on Thursday organized a one-day National Security Symposium at the Rwanda Military Academy Gako.

The symposium brought together senior government leaders, military officers, academics, policymakers and security experts to examine emerging security challenges facing the African continent.

Among the senior officials who attended the event were the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, and the Minister of Defence, Juvenal Marizamunda, alongside other senior defence and security officials.

Discussions during the symposium focused on the themes “External Interference in African Affairs: Challenges and the Way Forward” and “Natural Resources and Sustainable Development: Strategic Opportunities for Africa.”

Organizers said the annual symposium is designed to help senior command and staff course students strengthen their understanding of contemporary security dynamics while improving preparedness to respond to future complex threats affecting Africa.

The event also served as a platform for dialogue on regional stability, sustainable development and Africa’s role in addressing its own security concerns through cooperation and strategic leadership.
